FINAL!!!

OUR FINAL MASTER CUT!

WOOOO!

ENJOY :)

FINAL FEEDBACK

These are the questions we asked our audience to respond to.

HOW WAS THE CAMERA WORK?
-varied shots, good point of view shot.
-varied shots although tripod could have been used more smoothly.
- good range of shots.

APPROPRIATE SETTING?
-yes, whiteness of house makes blood stand out
-in some shots setting fits but having such a clean bathroom and it being bright does not make it seem like a thriller.
-yes hand prints on walls are too even, doesnt look like a murder scene.

APPROPRIATE MUSIC?
-yes, in time with Rowena coming out of the bath, gets a bit distorted.
-the music could have fitted better, sound worked well when came out of bath.
- when she came out of bath drums could have carried on or faded out, or repeated at the end.

WHERE THE TITLES CLEAR AND EFFECTIVE?
-yes, not sure about pink at the beginning.
-titles are simple but use good colour.
-titles clear and font could have been used in more of an effective way.

WAS IT A GOOD REPRESENTATION OF A TYPICAL THRILLER SEQUENCE?
-unique because its all black and white except the blood.
-it would be a typical thriller sequence if the location was different.
-yes, too typical in some parts, music at beginning was a little cheesy.

WHAT COULD BE DONE TO IMPROVE THE EDITING?
-titles over last candle scene
-some shots used too long and drag on but otherwise editing was great.
-fast paced editing builds up tension, looks good. Well done.

FINAL TOUCHES

We are well into the editing of our final sequence.

All we need to do it to add final touches, including taking out any flashes of black.

We had to add more footage back in to make it longer; so to do this we will add in close ups of blood hand prints, and make the titles appear for longer.

We added zooms on hand prints to make the beginning longer and to add more of an abstract theme.

This was all in response to the feedback we recieved when Steve viewed our peice.

We also changed the titles so that they were all the same, and that they all did the same thing. We changed it so that they were all capitals at the beginning of the titles and names etc, and so the 'Producer' and other names so they were bolder then the rest, and stood out more.

There was also a short clip in the film which we wanted to have in reverse, we found out how to do that so we changed it and it looks alot better and fits really well in our sequence.

Action Plan

From the feedback we received we are going to..

- make sure our titles become further apart, and are more clear.
- change the ending so that it creates more tension, runs through lots of scenes really quickly, and is jumpy.
- and just overall make it all tidy and looking good :)

We are also going to add more transitions, fades etc, between the clips.
We are pleased with all the feedback, and it has helped us a lot too see what we need to improve, as we have seen it now from a different perspective, it helped to see other peoples views.

Feed Back for rough cut!

When watching our sequence people left a lot of positive and some negative feedback, here is what people said.

POSITIVE

Good use of black and white.
Music fits in well.
Acting impressive.
Good shot variations.
Good use of close up on eyes.
Titles were good, and effective.
Close up of hand prints are good.
Good Audio.
Not using a tripod gave a good effect.
Was scary!

NEGATIVE

Titles may be too close together.
Can see reflection of camera in Jasmines eyes.
Titles a bit unclear.
Hand prints too even on wall.

Reflection - Rough Cut

This is our rough cut. We are nearly finished, as we used our time wisely, we were the first to film. We have added desaturation to add effect, we have a few fades in and out but this is still a working progress. We also have created and imported in our titles, and made them move around, zoom in and out, and flicker. We have also imported our original soundtrack, and have edited it so that it fits the sequence. In the rest of the time we have, we plan to listen to the feedback we will receive and make a few improvements to certain areas, and develop our video transitions :)

Behind the scenes dun dun duhhh

When filming, we created a bloody and creepy setting. We did this by putting fake blood on Emma's hands, and making bloody hand and making hand prints.

Filming

We have arranged to film on Sunday the 3rd of February at Rowena's house in Cambridge. The set of the sequence is to be in her bathroom, also followed by some filming down her stairs, and some shots from other parts of her house.

We are planning to create a mess in her bathroom, by putting red 'fake blood' all over her white tiles. We are looking for the spooky and creepy effect, creating thrills!

We will use other 'weapons' and such to create a creepy location, there will also be some white towels over floors and places, with 'blood' stains, caused by food colouring.

Our Anamatic

This is our animatic for our thriller sequence. The pictures are in order for how we would like our sequence to turn out. The effects added will help us to decide how to go from one scene to another, and the camera shots will show what we hope to achieve when filming.
We have also added the music, we have edited the music so that it fits with the scene and this is what we will do with our final piece.

Animatics

In today's lesson, we have finished our animatic and have added a few transitions to make it seem more realistic. We are also going to be putting the backing track with it, which we have made on Garageband. This has helped us to use animatics on the final cut, so it will be helpful for our final project.

Further planning

We finalized our storyboard and shot list. So we are prepared for when we start filming. The shots are jut a guideline, so we have other ideas of shots we can shoot so we can experiment with the story line so either change or add to it.
We also outlined pictures so when we take photos of the shot they will be more bold and to stand out more for when we animate it later on. We took photos of each individual shot to animate the story of our opening so we can then bring our story to life.

Real thriller

We thought the opening of Saw would be useful because it is also in the same setting, a bathroom. We thought this would be good because we could see how they had created a creepy bathroom and the effects they had used.

Developing Ideas

This lesson we thought more about props, costumes and locations. we decided to film, in a bathroom (rowena's). we chose this location because we wanted a black and white location, as we wanted to film in a negative colours as it would give a creepier affect.
Costumes: Girl in bath - normal cohoes (jeans and top)
Girl in reflection - also normal (jeans and top)
Props: Blood
Water
Towels
Mirror

Storyboard thriller

Today we started our storyboard and have done the first 5 shots for our thriller piece and we are now clearer on what the beginning shots will be.
have thought about a few props and costumes but will work on them when we have finished the story boarding. Doing story boarding has held us think about extra shots and how we will film.

FIRST IDEAS

When brainstorming our ideas we have come up with a starting point.
the name of our project is to be called 'REFLECTION'.
the main plot of the opening sequence is for a girl to gasp from the water in the bath and be in a dark spooky bathroom, with blood on the tiles, and steam streaks on the mirror, etc.
when she walks past a mirror, another persons reflection will show. This is trying to show that she is a schizophrenic person, with 2 people inside her.
she will stumble down the stairs, walking past blood stains, and mess, wondering where she is, and then the finish shot will be her looking into the mirror with the other persons reflection staring back at her, then it all stops, with a fade out of noise and shot, followed by a huge crash of music, with the title appears REFLECTION. dunddunddaaa
we are hoping for it to be in black and white, with red hand prints of blood, and a colour reflection in the mirror. we will have to use special effects when editing to make this possible.

Welcome

The sequence starts of quietly and slowly. The opening shots are of a bathtub with what appears to be blood floating around inside. Following this there are various fast paced shots of the presumed victim. They are extreme close-ups so that a certain air of mystery surrounds it. Also these type of close-ups display intense emotion. Sometimes it it not clear exactly what the shot is of.
The attacker is introduced, though not much about him is known. He wears a mask and pounces from behind. There is a struggle and at some point in the sequence blood is spilt.
The music builds slowly encouraging tension and fitting in well with the sequence.
